Chemical treatments

Chemical treatments can be of various kinds, but they all have in common the use of a wide range of technologically advanced equipment and the work of different professionals.

There can be different types of chemical treatments, which can be carried out using large and bulky machines.

But there is also the possibility of performing chemical treatments ‘at home’, i.e. directly at the customer’s site. In this way it is possible to reduce transport costs and optimise processing times. This type of methodology is known as on-site processing.

Today we want to explore the world of on-site treatments: let’s find out how they are carried out, what is possible and what is the most effective way to make the work quick and safe.

Chemical treatments: degreasing, pickling, passivation and electropolishing work on site

First of all, it must be said that on-site chemical treatment is not an option that everyone can offer. For this service, special equipment is needed that is able to replicate that which is present in the company, but in a much smaller size.

Only in this way is it possible to “export” the processes and thus reach even distant destinations, working on equipment that cannot be transported.

Bama Technologies has been carrying out this type of operation since 1996, when we decided to equip ourselves with the necessary structures to cope with the large number of requests received throughout Italy and abroad.

Processing

The chemical treatments that can be carried out on site can be very various: starting with degreasing, which is a preliminary operation, and ending with electropolishing, which is one of the final stages.

Inside, the process includes pickling, which removes the surface layer of the surface, and passivation, which has the opposite purpose of applying a protective layer to protect against oxidation and corrosion.

Each process obviously requires not only different equipment, but also specific skills.

The process

But how do you structure chemical treatments on site? It is a question of being able to coordinate the work of several professionals, while at the same time trying to place as little burden as possible on the work of the ‘host’ company.

As soon as the order is received, all the means necessary to organise the trip are activated. Bama Technologies is able to operate on a site with just a few hours’ notice, thanks to the availability of means and qualified personnel.

We are able to replicate in situ any of the processes we carry out daily in our Turbigo factory.

Once we arrive at the destination, our team will be ready to start work immediately, without interfering with the daily life of our guests: this will make the work faster and more efficient.

Our interventions are characterised by professionalism and speed: once the work is finished, our staff will take care of providing the last instructions to the operators involved in the use of the machines.

The entire staff has all the necessary certifications to carry out such treatments.

What you can do

We have said that it is possible to carry out chemical treatments on site and perform all the operations that are normally carried out within the production plant:

  • Degreasing
  • Pickling
  • Passivation
  • Electropolishing
  • Anodizing

All these treatments can be performed on different types of manufactured goods. In 20 years of experience, we at Bama Technologies have specialised in the chemical processing of the internal surfaces of plants and tanks. Often characterised by their enormous size, these items cannot be easily transported to undergo treatment; they are therefore the typical case of chemical treatments on site.

Pipelines, compressors, pharmaceutical lines, heat exchangers, pure gas plants and columns in the petrochemical industry complete our portfolio.

Thanks to the experience we have gained over the years, we have increasingly refined our technique, and we are able to carry out our work in compliance with all current safety regulations, but also with respect for the environment.

The products

In addition to the equipment and the professionalism of the operators involved, the products used during treatment also play a crucial role.

It is these that determine whether or not environmental regulations are complied with. Bama Technologies’ products are developed by our in-house laboratory, and are developed precisely to create the lowest possible environmental impact, preferring where possible to use substances that can be disposed of easily.

Only in this way is it possible to use the equipment and avoid oxidation and corrosion, which would reduce its lifespan.

The materials

The products to be used differ not only according to the treatment to be carried out, but also according to the material to be treated. Aluminium, stainless steel and copper all have different characteristics, allowing them to react only with certain substances.

The main chemical treatments on site are:

  • Aluminium
  • Stainless steel
  • Carbon steel
  • Copper
  • Titanium

All chemical treatments that protect a material against corrosion can be carried out on these materials, thus increasing their functionality.

If pickling, passivation and anodising are useful for all types of artefacts, they are absolutely essential in all cases where the object in question is in the open air: oxygen, together with the humidity in the air and water, only accelerates natural corrosion phenomena.

It is therefore necessary to protect the surfaces and make them “impermeable” to the action of corrosive agents, in order to guarantee them a long and profitable life.
