Polishing removes roughness from impellers and mixers, making the surface shiny and reflective. This process not only determines the aesthetic appearance but, more importantly, the functional aspect. Any metallic surface, after being polished, will react differently with its surroundings. Bama performs polishing on various metallic surfaces and work tools, especially on impellers and mixers. This phase allows the equipment to offer high and long-lasting performance.

Purpose of Polishing Impellers and Mixers

This procedure should not be confused with satin finishing, which gives a matte appearance to the metal rather than a polished mirror-like finish.

In nature, no surface is completely smooth; all have varying degrees of roughness and asperity.

The polishing phase may not necessarily be the last step. It prepares the metal for future processes such as chrome plating, gilding, and silvering. It can be the final process if the material in question is stainless steel.

The goal of the polishing process is to remove all roughness to smooth the surface as much as possible, making it more uniform and giving it a brilliant appearance.

To achieve a surface free of any asperities, Bama employs ultra-fine and uniform grain abrasives that significantly reduce the microscopic roughness of the metal.

Metal is polished not only for aesthetic reasons. The primary purpose is to make its surface as hygienic as possible. Mirror-polished surfaces prevent bacteria and impurities from attacking them, facilitating the cleaning of tools and improving their performance over time. Moreover, this process protects metal surfaces from chemical agents that could damage them. Additionally, mirror polishing enhances a material’s ability to flow liquids and powders.

Polishing of Impellers and Mixers by Bama

Bama performs polishing on all metallic surfaces and equipment such as impellers and mixers. There are different types of impellers: closed, semi-open, and operating radially or semi-axially. Each impeller can be made from different materials depending on its use. The important thing is the polishing process. It is crucial to make the object’s surface perfectly smooth because every impeller is subjected to wear, corrosion, and erosion phenomena.

Bama has also polished other instruments over the years, such as industrial mixers for liquids. Polishing is important because these tools mix various materials. Mixing, combined with other substances, tends to liquefy any material, making a porous surface detrimental to the equipment’s performance and longevity.

Techniques for Polishing Impellers and Mixers

Perfect polishing is achieved through two completely different techniques, both of which contribute to perfecting the rough surface of metallic objects.

The first is controlled surface abrasion using abrasive paste, a fine-grain substance that drastically reduces all rough parts of the objects.

The second technique, which is used more frequently, involves the use of waxy substances with a high refractive index. These waxes fill all microscopic asperities on the surfaces. When applied, they make the object appear less rough and much smoother.

Advantages of Polishing Impellers and Mixers

Polishing operations offer multiple advantages. Firstly, they remove possible machining burrs and eliminate any defects that the product presents at the end of various processes. Additionally, delving deeper, surface polishing provides the following benefits:

  • Increased efficiency
  • Reduction and elimination of cavitation
  • Mitigation of irregular liquid motion
  • Reduced vibrations
  • Improved performance

These are the reasons why polishing operations on the surfaces of various objects are of fundamental importance.
